IRMA Recovery UPDATE!
It’s expected tomorrow at the morning EOC Conference call a re-entry plan will be discussed/finalized. The County wants to make the plan public as soon as possible. Several important factors still outstanding need addressed.
When approved, all returning residents/property owners must be self-sufficient (including their own food, water and fuel to sustain themselves).
KCB Video/Pictures are being taken by TV88 and will be posted on the website.
Electric Co-op reports 65%-75% power restored; most of the outages are in the Marathon area. 15-20 Trucks were in KCB today working on the grid. Two streets have been energized; more tomorrow.
FKAA reports there is no timetable when the system will be fully restored. Water pressure is steadily increasing in KCB. Again, water is for sanitation purposes only and remember we are under a BOIL WATER NOTICE.
Our Sewer Plant continues to function well, with some minor problems being addressed continually. We expect to be switched from generator to electric power sometime tomorrow.
Marathon is looking for an area to setup a FEMA/Disaster recovery center.
The school system has targeted September 25th, Monday, to re-open. Not all schools might be opened at that time, but it’s a target nonetheless.
Debris removal continues in KCB.
A new website has been established by Monroe County. www.keysrecovery.org.
The Keys below Islamorada remain closed to the general population. .
Stay away from all Ports, Marinas, and all nearshore waterways. It is dangerous to travel on the water with debris, down powerlines, sunken boats, etc.… FWC and the Coast Guard are on the water and are strictly enforcing their jurisdictional power. Easy answer… don’t get in a boat and come to the keys at this time.
Fisherman’s is still closed but trying to have a mobile hospital in place no later than Tuesday. Mariner’s is 24/7 with limited but improved service. The armed services set up a mobile hospital at the City of Marathon, City Hall.
