EMERGENCY DIRECTIVE 20-02 March 20, 2020

CLOSING OF THE KEYS TO VISITORS

WHEREAS, the Mayor declared a State of Local Emergency on Sunday, March 15, 2020, in order for the County to take actions to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the community due to the novel coronavirus, COVID-19 pandemic; and

WHEREAS, due to the acceleration of the number of cases of COVID-19 in the neighboring counties and the high volume of traffic between Monroe County and the mainland of Florida; and

WHEREAS, that declaration and Section 11-3 of the Monroe County Code vest the Emergency Management Director with the authority to issue emergency directives; and

WHEREAS, in the interests of protecting the health, safety, and welfare of the residents and visitors to Monroe County, it is:ORDERED that

  1. The Florida Keys are closing to all tourists and leisure visitors.
  2. Effective immediately, no lodging establishment shall accept reservations until further notice, including extensions to current reservations.
  3. Effective Sunday March 22, 2020 at 6 p.m., all hotels, short term ( as defined as less than 28 days) vacation rentals, and other transient rentals to include marinas, RV parks, and time shares shall cease renting to tourists for 14 days. This ban shall not apply to rentals to transitory military personnel, first responders, health care workers, construction workers actively engaged in projects in the County, and others engaged in formal business in the Florida Keys.
  4. Per F.S. 252.46(2), this order shall take effect immediately upon being filed with the Monroe County Clerk.Date: March 20, 2020 Time:

  • The Key Colony Beach City Commission affirmed the County’s Emergency Directive today at an Emergency KCB Commission meeting. Further the City Commission decided to close all Parks, effective Sunday, March 22, at Noon.
  • At this time, the City’s Golf Course remains open but we are continuing to strongly encourage social distancing.
  • The Park closures, including Sunset Park, East Park, 7th Street Park, Waterfront Park, Tiki Hut/Coconut Path, Pickleball, Tennis & Bocce Ball will be re-evaluated on April 23rd.
  • Today the City Commission extended its’ Emergency Declaration for an additional seven (7) days from today.
  • The City Commission will meet tomorrow, Saturday, in Emergency Session, to again evaluate any additional directives it may deem necessary to protect the public health.
  • City Hall and Building Department offices are now closed to the public but are operational with a limited staff weekdays. Please call or email City Hall or the Building Department for services you may need. Staff will try to accommodate your needs via the phone or by email. This will remain in effect until the Commission or the Administrator change this protocol. The Building department can schedule certain inspections on a case-by-case basis.
  • The Police Department, Fire and EMS continue to serve for your safety 24/7.
  • The Governor has executed an executive order to close restaurants for local in-facility seating. We will issue another email blast with this executive order included.
  • Please know we are all working diligently to help lower the curve of exposure to the Coronavirus. We appreciate your patience and understanding. Please note these issues are changing daily and we contine to work with Monroe County, our neighboring Cities and the State of Florida.
