Final Update: Tropical Storm Debby – 12:00 PM 08-04-2024

Good morning/afternoon,

The final full weather briefing concerning Tropical Storm Debby for the Florida Keys of Monroe County is attached.

The Tropical Storm Warning has been discontinued for the Lower Florida Keys, west of 7 Mile Bridge. The Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Dry Tortugas.

A Wind Advisory has been issued for the Lower Florida Keys for this afternoon.

The Tropical Storm Watch has been discontinued for the Middle Florida Keys.

A Coastal Flood Advisory (for saltwater flooding) remains in effect for all of the Florida Keys through mid afternoon.

The Flood Watch (for rainfall induced flooding) has been discontinued for all of the Florida Keys.

Lingering impacts include:

Scattered squalls with localized wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph, mainly in the Lower Keys, and up to 50 knots over open waters west of the Lower Keys through the Dry Tortugas into afternoon. The frequency and intensity of t he squalls will decrease later this afternoon and evening. Over the Lower Florida Keys, south winds sustained around 25 mph with frequent gusts to near 35 mph will continue through late this afternoon.

A marginal risk of severe weather through early afternoon, with the primary threats being isolated damaging wind gusts and possibly a tornado or two. The risk of severe weather should diminish later this afternoon.

Above normal tides with water levels 1 to 2 feet above mean higher high water, similar to October King Tides with decrease by mid afternoon. Likewise, oceanside overwash of seawalls, docks and low elevation yards and streets will diminish.

While a few heavy downpours may still occur, additional rainfall is not expected to produce significant street nor poor drainage areaflooding.

Tropical Storm Debby will continue to move northward across the eastern Gulf of Mexico and away from the Florida Keys . On the forecast track, Debby will reach the Florida Big Bend coast Monday morning.
