Final Weather Brief – Hurricane Rafael – Florida Keys of Monroe County

The final update to the Weather Brief concerning Hurricane Rafael for the Florida Keys of Monroe County is below.

  • A Small Craft Advisory is in effect for all Florida Keys coastal waters
  • A Coastal Flood Statement remains in effect for the Florida Keys 
  • Hurricane Rafael is located across the extreme southeastern Gulf and a northwestward motion is expected to continue through this morning, followed by a turn to the west-northwest by this afternoon over the south-central Gulf of Mexico.
  • There is high confidence in the forecast track. Potential impacts for the Florida Keys will include:
  • A Coastal Flood Statement remains in effect for all Florida Keys for any lingering coastal flooding from Hurricane Rafael
  • Sustained winds of 20 to 25 mph with occasional gusts of 35 mph are ongoing, mainly across the Lower Keys. These winds will gradually decrease this afternoon and tonight.
  • An additional 1 inch of rainfall is possible within passing squalls, mainly in the Lower Keys.
  • Conditions will continue to improve today as Hurricane Rafael moves further away from the Florida Keys.
