FROM THE NWS FLORIDA KEYS OPERATIONS TEAM:
A strong cold front will surge to the southeast across the Gulf of Mexico on Wednesday. The leading edge of the arctic air mass will reach the Florida Keys Wednesday evening, preceded by a collapsing line of showers, and potentially a few thunderstorms. Northerly breezes will freshen rapidly after the frontal passage, peaking near 25 knots Wednesday night. The cooldown will be short-lived and breezes will shift steadily to the northeast to east as the high-pressure system slides east into the western North Atlantic. And yet, winds greater than 20 knots and Small Craft Advisories likely will linger into the weekend.
Winds in many locations, including Key West Bight and Boot Key Harbor, will be near 25 knots Wednesday evening/Thursday morning. Winds of these magnitudes are known to flip dinghies.
