Municipal Election – Frequently Asked Candidate Questions
When is the next City election?
The City of Key Colony Beach may potentially hold a Municipal Election on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
What offices are up for election?
Two (2) City Commission seats will be on the ballot. Each position carries a four-year term.
I’m interested in running for City Commission. When can I start?
Residents interested in becoming a candidate do not have to wait until the qualifying period to begin the process. Potential candidates are highly encouraged to pre-file at any time prior to qualifying week.
How do I pre-file?
Potential candidates must contact the City Clerk’s Office to schedule an appointment. During this appointment, the City Clerk will provide guidance on the steps required to begin campaign activity, including:
• Announcing a candidacy
• Opening a campaign account (campaign checks are required for payment of the verification of petitions and for paying the assessment and/or qualifying fees)
• Accepting campaign contributions
• Collecting candidate petitions
• Filing required campaign finance reports, including quarterly reports
Campaign activity may not begin until pre-filing with the City Clerk is completed.
Is there a Candidate Seminar?
Yes. The Monroe County Supervisor of Elections Office will provide a Candidate Seminar on:
Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. at the Marathon Government Center
Prospective and qualified candidates are encouraged to attend.
What is the deadline for collecting and submitting candidate petitions?
If a candidate chooses to qualify by petition, completed petitions must be submitted to the Monroe County Supervisor of Elections Office no later than 12:00 p.m. (Noon) on Monday, May 11, 2026, for verification. YOU MUST HAVE PRE-FILED WITH THE CITY CLERK TO COLLECT PETITIONS.

When is the qualifying period?
The official qualifying period for the City of Key Colony Beach Municipal Election is:
From: Noon, Monday, June 8, 2026
To: Noon, Friday, June 12, 2026
The City Clerk will begin accepting qualifying paperwork on May 26, 2026; however, all qualifying documents are formally processed during the qualifying period.
