FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE – KEY WEST

Key Messages:

• There is a marginal risk of severe thunderstorms this evening over the Florida Keys, with localized damaging wind gusts near 60 mph the primary threat.

• The highest risk for severe thunderstorms in the Florida Keys is expected during the evening and overnight hours tonight. The threat for locally strong wind gusts begins to increase beginning around 6:00 pm this evening, then peaks in a window from after 8:00 pm this evening through 4:00 am Tuesday.

• The Storm Prediction Center has outlooked all of the Florida Keys for a MARGINAL RISK (Level 1 out of 5) for severe thunderstorms through tonight, with damaging wind gusts near 60 mph the main threat.

• Have multiple ways to receive weather alerts and warnings, and be prepared to take shelter if necessary.

No additional briefs are scheduled at this time concerning this evening’s strong thunderstorm potential, however updates will be provided if there is a change from the current Marginal Risk (Level 1 out of 5) for any portion of the Florida Keys and its coastal waters.
