EOC IRMA Recovery call
I want to tell you all of the herculean efforts going on in the Keys to help us save lives and recover from this monstrous storm:
Our team of KCB first responders are working hard clearing roads and checking on residents. They still do not have water, power or phone service;
You know about FKEC and FKAA working hard;
FDOT is making sure our 42 bridges and 120 miles of highway are safe. All bridges have been cleared all the way down to mm16 at Sugarloaf Key;
The Red Cross and Salvation Army are bringing in 30,000 plus meals, water and other supplies;
The US Air Force and Air National Guard are bringing in supplies, flying rescue missions and flying out refugees soon. A US Marine Corps C-130 cargo plane is flying into NAS Boca Chica tonight with pallets of water;
The US Navy has the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln off the coast with helicopters supporting us. They are also sending an Amphibious group of ships for support. NAS Key West is open and supporting flight operations. There are many other support services these ships can provide like medical, evacuation, rescue, logistics, etc;
The US Coast Guard and FWC are saving lives and keeping our waters safe;
Our KW hospital is opening up for first responders and restoration crews. Mariners will be open soon. Trauma Star is returning from Alabama;
The County, Sheriff and all municipalities are working around the clock. There is a sun down to sun up curfew across the keys to help maintain order;
The Governor, and President have pledged support and money for us to save lives and rebuild;
I know I missed someone.
But, with all this effort, I still cannot tell you when residents can come back in. Our county, state and federal partners are working hard to get first responders in, then service crews, then third tier personnel like myself. Please continue to read my website updates because that will give you the best idea of when you can return.
