City of Key Colony Beach Official City Website

From Mayor John DeNeale: as of the 9/11/17 6:30 PM

EOC Irma Recovery call:
– Communications are still satellite phone only with KCB, so the many requests that I am getting for pictures in KCB cannot be provided yet. I will post some as soon as I can. The county just received 5 military communications packages that have phone and internet capability, but those are for emergency personnel only;
– The county EOC just got back into their primary facility in Marathon after being hosted in Ocean Reef the last three days. As you can assume, having EOC members spread around the Keys with limited communications has been a huge challenge;
– KW and Marathon airports are open for emergency operations only due to a great job by Air Force Special Operations people. There is no timeline for commercial or civil service. If an airline makes you a reservation into KW, they are not cleared to land at this time;
– FKEC is trying to power their transmission lines from Islamorada to Marathon tomorrow. They will have to test the distribution lines to Marathon and KCB residents. Power in the Keys will be a challenge for weeks to months;
– FKAA has numerous leaks, but will try to get water to KCB and Marathon soon. They have Reverse Osmosis facilities in Marathon and Stock Island to provided emergency service to us and KW. Boil water orders will be in effect for some time. KW is getting water for 2 hours a day, but they are fighting numerous leaks there also. There is too much to cover to update you on the status in the rest of the Keys.
– FDOT hopes to have the 100ft. + of washed out US 1 at MM 75 repaired tomorrow;
– There is no timeline for Fishermen’s Hospital yet. We hope soon. TRAMASTAR should be back tomorrow;
Thank you for the moral support and words of encouragement you have expressed for your city staff in your e-mails, especially for our team in KCB. We are only one day into recovery mode, but I am impressed by the accomplishments of everyone.
