IRMA EOC RECOVERY CALL 9.17.17 at 6:30PM
Just a few updates from this morning (highlighted with an “ * “)
*Electric Co-op: All street distribution lines are energized in KCB. Your individual meters need to be safe before each property is turned on. We strongly suggest you have a licensed electrician inspect the meter if the co-op has booted or deemed it unsafe. All homes have already been looked at and stickered appropriately by the co-op and they will energize those boxes as soon as possible. For those boxes declared unsafe for any reason, please don’t have it turned on before its replaced or repaired. We do not need house fires during the recovery. Our Vice-Mayor is working directly with the co-op to improve the organization of re-energizing of property tomorrow.
*There will be a controlled power outage tomorrow between 8am and Noon to fix a major insulator that is difficult to reach. When fixed, it will allow more energy across the Keys.
*The curfew in greater Marathon is now set at 10PM.
*There will be staff in and around City Hall tomorrow for recovery related questions. Be patient as we have NOT resumed regular business operations.
Remember to be self-sufficient, including food, water and fuel. There is still limited power and a boil water notice remains in effect. Use water for sanitation purposes only.
The Sheriff posted today all the Florida Keys are open for residents, property owners and businesses to rebuild. If you are returning to the keys for other purposes, you will be turned back. Make sure any of your contractors coming down from the mainland have proper documentation to prove they are doing work for you. I cannot guarantee they will have success at the checkpoint. Checkpoints still remain at Florida City, 7-mile bridge, and 21 separate checkpoints between the 7-mile bridge and Key West to protect property where the majority of the storm hit in the lower keys. Check www.keysrecovery.org.
Have a safe night.
