IRMA EOC RECOVERY CALL 9.17.17
No material updates from last evening. Remember to be self-sufficient, including food, water and fuel. There is still limited power and a boil water notice remains in effect. Use water for sanitation purposes only.
The Sheriff posted today all the Florida Keys are open for residents, property owners and businesses to rebuild. If you are returning to the keys for other purposes, you will be turned back. Make sure any of your contractors coming down from the mainland have proper documentation to prove they are doing work for you. I cannot guarantee they will have success at the checkpoint.
Checkpoints still remain at Florida City, 7-mile bridge, and 21 separate checkpoints between the 7-mile bridge and Key West to protect property where the majority of the storm hit in the lower keys. The dusk-to-dawn curfew south of Islamorada remains at this point. The curfew could change soon. Check www.keysrecovery.org.
On a personal note:
I am humbled and proud of the work of so many people; too many to mention here. KCB is resilient, with a strong sense of community. I watched the videos posted yesterday of the storm damage in KCB (thank you TV88) and it just hit me again how special we are and how together we will rebuild and make the community tighter, stronger and more prosperous. What we all know, but we do not say it enough is “the people, not the buildings, make it the gem of the Florida Keys” I am grateful to be managing such a special place. Thank you.
