Mayor Update for January 19, 2021

First off I would like to Thank You for re-electing me to the City Commission. It is an honor to serve you going on 17 years. I pledge to work hard for the next 4 years with our other City Commissioners to keep our City, the Gem of the Florida Keys.

The City Commission has approved the hire of a new City attorney, Dirk Smits, after the retirement of longtime City attorney Tom Wright. The Commission also hired Jim Dorl as code enforcement attorney. I would also like to thank Rich Malafy for stepping in to help us out during this transition.

Our lobbyist, Jerry Paul, will be representing us in Tallahassee with the Legislature trying to get our city moneys allocated to help us replace our City Hall and other grants for other projects in our City.

Our Covid cases have been rising in our State and here in KCB. I’m sure this is do to  holiday gatherings. Vaccines will be coming in the near future for everyone. You can check online at Monroe County Fl. and go under the Covid link or Baptist Health.net/vaccine to make sure if you are eligible and to make an appointment. I have checked several times over the past week and found no appointments for the public in our area. Hopefully they will be available soon.

Until then, please protect yourselves and each other by wearing a mask and using social distancing. Keep your spirits up and we will all work together to get thru these terrible times.

Ron Sutton, Mayor
