Hurricane Elsa – Declaration of Local State of Emergency

Monroe County Emergency Management and the City of Key Colony Beach have entered into a Local State of Emergency in advance of the landfall Monday early afternoon of Tropical Storm Elsa.  We recommend that all residents and visitors Shelter in Place from early afternoon on Monday to later morning on Tuesday. Everyone should be prepared for the loss of power and water. Please secure any garbage or recycling cans along with any lose items on your property or rental.  If you feel your boat or watercraft may be vulnerable to tropical storm force winds, rain and surge, please ensure you secure these vessels. In addition, there may be localized flooding as we anticipate 2-6 inches in rainfall and sustained winds up to 60mph.

We will continue to provide updates as information becomes available and the storm approaches landfall in the Keys. The National Weather Service in Key West anticipates a return to typical July weather by Wednesday morning. Please monitor website for more information.
