Tropical Depression Four Update – 7:00 AM ET 08-03-2024

Good morning,

The latest briefing concerning Tropical Depression Four for the Florida Keys of Monroe County is attached.

• Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for the Dry Tortugas

• Tropical Storm Watch remains in effect for the Lower and Middle Florida Keys

• Tropical Storm Watch has been discontinued for the Upper Florida Keys

• Coastal Flood Watch in effect for ALL of the Florida Keys through Sunday morning

• Flood Watch in effect for ALL of the Florida Keys through Sunday morning

• Prepare as soon as possible for the potential for:

o Thundery squalls with localized wind gusts of 45 to 55 mph, but up to around 50 knots over open waters, this morning through Sunday

o A marginal risk of severe weather late today through early Sunday morning, with the primary threat being an isolated tornado or two.

o Above normal tides with water levels 1 to 2 feet above mean higher high water, similar to October King Tides. Oceanside overwash atop seawalls, docks, and low elevation yards and streets due to wave action is also expected today through Sunday.

o Slight Risk of excessive rainfall, with totals most likely in the 2 to 4 inch range through Sunday. Locally higher amounts will be possible.

• Tropical Depression Four will move across western Cuba this morning, into the western Straits of Florida this afternoon, then northward over the eastern Gulf of Mexico tonight and Sunday. The depression is expected to strengthen into a tropical storm this afternoon or evening.

The next briefing is scheduled for distribution around 11:30 am ET today.
