Weather Brief: Strong winds and cold weather potential beginning Sunday night – Florida Keys of Monroe County

FROM THE NATIONAL WEATER SERVICE – KEY WEST:

Below is a special early release of a weather brief concerning the potential for a brief period of strong winds and colder temperatures Sunday night through Tuesday morning.  Because relatively light winds and warm daytime temperatures reaching the lower 80s are expected this weekend, we composed an early briefing to account for the significant change in weather conditions beginning Sunday night.

This briefing is available at https://www.weather.gov/media/key/DSS/dssbrief_land.pdf

Key Messages:

  • A period of strong sustained northwest winds peaking around 25 mph with frequent gusts around 35 mph is likely Sunday night and Monday morning.
  • Cold temperatures likely falling below 50 degrees in the Upper Florida Keys, along with wind chills reaching the upper 30s to lower 40s, Monday night through Tuesday morning.
  • Hazardous marine wind and sea conditions are likely to develop Sunday night and continue through early Tuesday.
