Dear Key Colony Beach Residents and Property & Business Owners,
The City of Key Colony Beach is writing to inform you of sewer rate adjustments adopted under Ordinance No. 2026-515, effective October 1, 2026.
For residential, apartment, and condominium living units, the monthly sewer rate will increase from $74.00 to $84.00 per unit. Residential customers are billed quarterly, increasing the quarterly charge from $222.00 to $252.00.
For commercial accounts, the usage rate will increase from $2.47 to $2.58 per 100 gallons of water consumed. The minimum monthly charge will increase from $74.00 to $84.00 per unit, or the charge based on water consumption, whichever is greater.
The majority of the rate increase is necessary to address higher sludge hauling and processing costs. Landfills in the Miami/Fort Lauderdale area are no longer accepting Monroe County sludge shipments, requiring the City to transport sludge to facilities farther away for processing and disposal. The additional transportation and processing costs have significantly increased the expense of operating the City’s wastewater system.
The rate adjustment will also support routine maintenance and necessary infrastructure improvements while helping ensure the wastewater utility continues to operate in a financially responsible manner without depleting current reserves.
