Weather Update – Nov 1, 2023

Weather Update for: Emergency Management serving jurisdictions within the Florida Keys of Monroe County

Strong high pressure building across the eastern United States will bring a period of stronger, gusty northeast winds tonight through early Saturday morning.

From late tonight – 11/1/23 (after midnight) through the early morning hours Thursday 11/2/23, northeast winds are expected to be sustained near 25 mph with frequent gusts near 35 mph. A few, briefly stronger wind gusts in the 35 to 40 mph range are possible over the Lower Florida Keys as well as higher/longer bridges during a short period mainly from 4:00 am to 9:00 am Thursday morning.

These conditions are just slightly below what the NWS Florida Keys would use for a formal Wind Advisory.

The northeast wind direction will produce the strongest crosswinds on the Channel 5 and Jewfish Creek Bridges, as opposed to the other major crossings.

Otherwise, the main concern is for any Halloween displays and decorations that may need to be secured today in preparation for the increase in winds.

Should wind speeds be expected to become slightly higher, a Wind Advisory may be issued with an upgraded weather briefing distribution to all NWS Florida Keys core partner stakeholders.
