Weather Brief – Cold Temperatures/Strong Wind/Coastal Flood Potential This Weekend

An update to the weather brief concerning cold temperatures, strong winds, and coastal flooding potential this weekend is posted to https://www.weather.gov/media/key/DSS/dssbrief_land.pdf

Key Messages:

  • Prepare for the coldest temperatures thus far in the season, including low wind chills, are forecast for the Florida Keys this weekend.
  • A period of strong sustained northwest winds peaking near 30 mph from late Saturday afternoon through early Sunday morning that may blow around unsecured, loose outdoor objects, down small tree limbs, cause isolated utility outages, and hazardous crosswinds for high-profile vehicles on the more elevated, longer bridges in the Florida Keys.
  • There is a chance for minor to moderate coastal flooding along the Gulf shores of the Lower Florida Keys, and a chance for minor coastal flooding along the Bay shores of the Middle and Upper Keys late Saturday night and early Sunday morning.
  • Very hazardous marine wind and sea conditions are likely to develop Saturday and continue through at least Sunday evening.
