PUBLIC NOTICE
FRAUD & SCAM ALERT – PROTECT YOUR PERSONAL AND FINANCIAL INFORMATION
The City of Key Colony Beach is alerting residents, property owners, applicants, and members of the public to be vigilant regarding fraudulent emails, invoices, payment requests, and other communications that may falsely appear to originate from the City, a City board or commission, or City staff.
The City has recently been made aware of a fraudulent invoice requesting payment by wire transfer that appeared to be associated with an upcoming City agenda item.
Residents and applicants should use extreme caution with any unexpected request for payment or personal information.
DO NOT:
- Wire money in response to an unsolicited or unexpected email.
- Provide bank account, credit card, Social Security, password, or other personal or financial information by email.
- Use phone numbers, email addresses, links, or payment instructions contained in a suspicious message or invoice.
- Assume a communication is legitimate simply because it contains the City’s name, address, logo, seal, or information about an actual City matter.
VERIFY BEFORE YOU PAY
If you receive an invoice, payment request, or other communication claiming to be from the City of Key Colony Beach and are uncertain whether it is legitimate, do not respond to the message or use the contact information provided in it.
Instead, contact the City of Key Colony Beach directly using the City’s official contact information to verify the request before making any payment or providing personal information.
If you have already provided financial or personal information or transferred funds in response to a suspicious communication, contact your financial institution immediately and report the incident to the appropriate authorities.
Please remain vigilant and share this notice with your neighbors.
