Potential for Rainfall Flooding Continues with Downpours near the Times of High Tide Today

Potential for Rainfall Flooding Continues with Downpours near the Times of High Tide Today

  • Flooding of streets, poor drainage areas and low elevation yards is possible today, especially in areas impacted by king tide flooding.
  • Rain chances will gradually decrease late today through Tuesday, with a dry weather pattern returning late this week.

Minor to Moderate Coastal Flooding Will Repeat at the High Tides through Tuesday Morning

  • Coastal Flood Advisories remain in effect for all of the Florida Keys as of this morning.
  • Continuation of periodic moderate saltwater flooding of low elevation streets, parking lots, yards, and the overtopping of docks will likely be observed again the next few tide cycles.  Streets where king tide flooding is normally observed each autumn may become flooded and difficult to navigate for smaller vehicles for a few hours around the published times of high tide.
  • For the Florida Keys, plan for peak water levels during the early to mid morning hours Tuesday continue a slow decrease, about a couple inches lower.  Even so, minor to occasionally moderate coastal flooding is likely to continue, especially along the Upper Keys Bayside and along the Sounds throughout much of this week.

With the approach of the new moon phase on November 9th, the published lunar-driven “predicted” tides are likely to increase king tide season water levels and coastal flooding toward the end of next week.  While Coastal Flood Advisories could be lowered to Statements over the Middle and Lower Keys soon, this will likely be only temporary as peak evening/nighttime high tide water levels rise this upcoming weekend and into early next week.

The next briefing will be distributed by 0930 EST Tuesday, November 3rd.
