Coastal Flooding Potential
- A COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY remains in effect for the Upper Florida Keys, primarily for the Bayside of Key Largo, for moderate saltwater tide flooding of low elevation streets and lots, overflowing storm drains, and overtopped docks. A COASTAL FLOOD STATEMENT for minor saltwater tide flooding is in effect for the Middle and Lower Florida Keys.
- This morning (Friday), tides are running around 0.6 to 0.9 feet higher than lunar/astronomical tide prediction charts indicate.
- Minor to moderate saltwater flooding is expected to continue into early next week.
- Through this weekend, higher high tide is during the early morning hours on the oceanside, and extending into the mid morning hours after sunrise.
- Tides are expected to continue around 0.6 to 0.8 feet above normal predicted values, with the peak tides are expected to reach between 3 and 10 inches deep in the lowest streets and lots in areas prone to King Tide flooding.
Rainfall Outlook
- The chance of exceeding one inch of rainfall through this evening ranges from 15 to 35 percent at each Florida Keys community, with the higher chances in the Lower Keys. The chances for similar heavy downpours begins to decrease tonight and Saturday, and a relatively drier period from the weekend into early next week is forecast with rain chances near or slightly below normal for this time of year.
- The chances for heavy downpours resulting in greater than 1 inch per day amounts increase during the middle to later portion of next week.
This will be the final brief concerning this combined impact due to the decrease in daily rain chances back towards climatological normals for early October. However, briefings may resume during the early or middle portion of next week should another potential heavy rainfall threat evolve.
